Frequently Asked Questions
You have questions, I have the answers! See below some frequent questions. Chances are you’re not the first one to wonder. And if you don’t see what you’re looking for feel free to contact me to get an answer to your question.
A: You can see for yourself while you take a look at my wedding and portrait portfolios and my recent blog posts. But I would call my style fun and airy with a little pop of color and funk. I think the experience of taking photos comes through in the images you see. So if we’re having fun, the photos are going to be fun (and I aim to have fun at every session!) I love looking for natural patterns wherever we are and the best light.
Not everyone is comfortable in front of the camera and that’s ok! I definitely am one of those people. I will do my best to make sure you are as comfortable as possible. I want to photograph your natural interactions with your loved ones. I love candid moments and getting real emotions. I can give you as much space or guidance as needed.
A; Good mood is the most important thing. Make sure you have enough time to prepare beforehand so you are not stressed, comfortable cloth fitting the season and be open to venture out. With kids it helps to bring something to drink and some little treats to make it easy for them as well. We can go through specific questions before your shoot so we can ensure you are well prepared.
A: I love getting to know my clients’ kids, even the ones who are shy/stubborn/you name it! I always approach the session as a new friend who’s just there to play and have a good time. I have all the patience in the world, and I find that being easy-going translates to happy kiddos. That being said, not every moment of the session is perfect, and that’s totally OK — in fact, it’s encouraged! In 10 years, I’m willing to bet that you’ll cherish the image of your toddler crying fake tears just as much as the one that we took 10 seconds later of him happily running toward the camera. My goal is to capture the personalities of the kids in front of my lens, including all of the beautiful quirks, details, and small moments that make up childhood.
A: We shoot with professional Nikon equipment, including full frame cameras, prime lenses as well as external lighting. We always make sure bring backup equipment in case something should not work as expected. If you are interested in more details let us know, but we rather recommend to look at our work and see if you like the results.
A: No, I do not. I am focused on photographing. But I can definitely provide you with some references of videographers who are amazing.
Pricing and Booking
A: All dates are reserved once I receive your signed contract and deposit.
A: I accept checks, cash, PayPal and Venmo
A: Unfortunately no. Retainer fees are used to reserve your date. Once I’ve reserved your date, I do not accept new clients for your date.
A: I keep my prices very affordable for local clients. I am perfectly happy traveling but in an excess of 100 miles round trip, there will be a travel fee. You will always know in advance to consider it in your budget.
A: All of my packages come with the option to receive digital files, so in this case there is no additional cost after the payment of the package. Additional print products can always be purchased optionally. Any Pennsylvania clients will be charged 6% PA State tax.
For weddings all outside fees, for example coordinator and venue commission, permits or any other third party cost have to be covered by the client.
A: Yes. Many venues require the photographer to have Liability Insurance. I am fully insured. If your venue requires special details I are happy to provide them. Just let me know
After the session
I typically deliver anywhere from 30-60 images per 1-hour shoot. And for a wedding, I typically deliver 60-80 images per hour. Keep in mind these numbers may increase or decrease depending on the flow of the day and the number of events/activities needing to be captured.
A: No, I do not. All of the best of photos are delivered to you. I immediately eliminate duplicate images, test shots, missed focused shots, shots with bad expressions and other images that may dilute the overall product delivery. For example, sometimes I take a few extra shots to make sure we have the perfect focus. We don’t expect you to take the time to zoom into each image to select the one with the sharpest focus, so I spend hours doing that on my end. In another example, candid laughs and emotional tears are some of the best images from the day. But think about the funny faces that can come with that. I make sure to get a few extras of any of these moments to make sure I have a great shot with the ideal expression for the moment.
A: Yes I do. Every image we deliver is post produced with my unique signature style of post-production. This involves color correction, exposure adjustment, selective black and white processing, and other corrections. Many photographers will not post produce any images, or will only post produce “select” images from your wedding. This means that you may have pictures that are too dark, have strange skin tones or other common photography flaws.
A: Every event, photo session and wedding is different. For your specific situation, please refer to your photography contract. Rush editing available for a fee.
Typical family / portrait / engagement session 2-4 weeks
Typical wedding photos delivered in 8-12 weeks
A: Yes! For clients who would like to see a small sampling of their photos within the first few days we offer a “sneak peak” that can be viewed our Social Media pages. If you want to share your sneak peak with friends and family you can do so by sharing the post straight to your own page.
A: A lot of work goes into the images after the actual session is done, and it sounds easier to “just send a few images” than it actually is. If possible we try to provide a sneak peek on social media, but otherwise concentrate very hard to provide you with your images in the promised time frame.
A: Copyright is a common questions I get and a lot of people are confused by the term copyright. It simply means I created the image and “own” them. Selling or obtaining the copyright is only possible in extreme circumstances, is a lengthy process and comes with a large price tag. But all of my listed prices include a “release” which means you can take your delivered images and print them anywhere you choose. (Although for amazing professional quality prints, I would love for you to order through me of course.)
A: You will receive reproduction rights to all your images. This gives you the right to reproduce the images for personal use, so you can use them for prints, sharing them on your social media, making canvases, etc. Commercial use is not allowed if not separately agreed on. The copyright of the images remain with the photographer.
A: Each of my sessions or packages come with a full resolution image download. However, I do not provide RAW (unprocessed) files from my shoots because I believe in delivering a finished product.
A: There is a $100 replacement charge for additional downloads after the event has been archived. I strongly suggest you make at least one copy of the download when you receive it.
A few of many happy clients…
Almost a year later and every time I see our pictures, I am filled with so many happy memories from our wedding day! From the first time we met Melanie over coffee we knew she would be the perfect photographer for us. She brings her down to Earth personality to photo sessions to get the perfect shots and did an amazing job shooting our engagement and wedding photos. I highly recommend Melanie and can't thank her enough for capturing our big day!

Melanie takes amazing photos! My daughter and son in laws wedding photos are breath taking and gorgeous! I would recommend her to anyone!!
Mel was so wonderful. She photographed our wedding in October and we couldn't be more in love with her photos. She was kind and helpful but also was in the background during the more special intimate moments throughout the day. She made me laugh when I was feeling tense and gave good advice when I felt a little lost as to what I should be doing next. I would absolutely recommend Mel to photograph any and all of your special occasions. Thanks Mel!! xo

Melanie was recommended to us by a friend and I'm so glad she was! Excellent at responding and she was so wonderful with our little one during her photo shoot (even when our girl was so over having her picture taken!). I love how she took time to get to know us and personalized the pictures. Love every one of them!!
Melanie was wonderful at my wedding! She was so patient & kind but still very professional. The photos of our wedding came out beautiful & I will treasure them forever. Besides my new husband she was the best decision of the day!
